Cat owners can 100% agree with these facts. My sisters had one named Simon who would place himself in their lap and demand attention. Even if they told him “NO SIMON” in a voice you could hear on the other side of the house.
Tone has little to do with it… When I quietly and calmly explain to Jaguar that she shouldn’t be behind the TV, she’ll answer me back and reluctantly but eventually climb down…
She’s also bilingual… she can ignore me in French or English…
Our cat used to sleep in her bed upstairs during most afternoons. My wife would call her name and say “come to the garden”! Moments later she would pop through her cat door and roll around in the carrots. Inside the house she always came when we called her.
I never had a cat who ignored me, and all knew their names, and they all came when called.
Ericka (pictured) also understood hand signals. For instance, if I wanted her to go somewhere or get down from somewhere, I would point at her and say her name, then point where I wanted her to go. I usually had to do that twice because she would first give me this “are you talking to me?” look, but then she always went where I pointed.
I’ve had exactly one kitty that would come when called… a very smart cat, she would also play practical jokes on me (and desist once caught at it). All my other kitties have been more like Garfield… though I do train them to come when I tap a spoon on the cat food can (or have they trained me?).

And on that thought… meme I recently found -
“My kids say they want a cat for Christmas.
Normally I do a turkey but hey, if it’ll make’em happy…"

Cats are only interested in responding to sounds of a food container opening.

Absolutely true Garfield, all cats only care about, is their sleep, unless of course it’s dinner time and wanting to go outside.

And the longest ongoing research on this is a certain 42-year old comic strip!

Depends on what kind of cat you have. There are better pets, though.

Not unlike some teen-aged adolescents. Or, for that matter, certain elderly folk such as myself. Selective hearing is a wonderful thing. . .

Garfield is the representative of all cats.

100% of the cats (2) in my research proved this hypothesis.

I get enough of that with people today, that’s why I’m a dog person…..

Unless Jon says “Pizza” after saying Garfield’s name, Garfield’s still gonna ignore him.

I’m sure cats have selective hearing like dogs. My dogs hear me, they just tune me out.

Garfield listens to whatever he wants to hear, when he wants it, and how he wants to see it. #thecatwantsitwants :]

As the mother of four cats and two toddlers, I can confirm that this is true for felines and human children.
