Seems like Odie’s doggone tired

and to think Garfield has nap attacks (nice to see Odie have the limelight for a change)

I bet Garfield would like to fall asleep into food like that.

Garfield: I’ve taught you well Odie.

Now we find out there is a bit of coffee in the bottom of the dish?!

Interesting. Today’s “Garfield Classics” shows Garfield having Narcolepsy, and now this is showing Odie has it.

For a minute there, I thought Odie swallowed a fly and decided to take advantage of Odie’s stupidness to eat his food ?

I will explain the joke in today’s Garfield comic. But first, we must walkthrough the panels. The first panel shows Odie hunched, with eyebags around his eyes. The second panel shows Odie yawning. The third panel shows Odie asleep. Odie then wakes up, and falls asleep in the next three panels. Jon then wakes Odie on the 6th panel with a bowl of food. The seventh panel shows Odie fallen asleep, face flat into his filled food bowl. This repeats for the 8th panel, except there is a heart above Odie’s head.

Clearly, Davis has established that Odie is tired. But the joke is, Odie is enjoying the fact that he fell asleep face first into his foodbowl. This is shown in the last panel, when Odie’s tail is wagging, and the fact that there is a heart above him.

Such a hilarious joke, with such good payoff. This comic is just another perfect example of Jim Davis’s masterpieces of art that he spends hours perfecting, just so he can release his piece to everyone for free. Although this comic does not contain Garfield, it’s still hilarious nonetheless.

I worked on a project on the east coast. Our supervisor had the housekeeping unit ‘cause he thought himself the master chef (not even close) One morning we went for breakfast and saw Bernie asleep with his face in last night’s dinner plate. We tossed a coin to see who would spy on him while the other guy called his room to wake him up. I lost and George says it was hilarious.
