Just down the trail a bit, the beavers are playing Twister.

The Deer tell the humans, “Well… if you go down that path… the squirrels are playing cribbage. The trail towards the hills is where all the creatures of the Enchanted Forest are playing a parody of D&D called Cubicles and Bosses. And if you go down the road to the river… the raccoons are playing football. But… they keep changing the rules… so who knows what they are playing any more!”

I hear Whack-a-Mole is popular.

Those two are yet to realize they are the obvious opposition involved the actual chess game. The obvious distraction should be the only required clue.

You would be a fool to hunt any animal smart enough to play chess. Those look like Moose. You hunters think they don’t know what you are up to? As in chess, these two are making a move ( bait), while their large friends are preparing to charge and take you from the flank.
