Don’t worry, Calvin, you’ll be out of there by mid-April.

Hopefully Hobbes doesn’t build any snow goons while Calvin’s stuck in there.

Now, see, this is one of the strips that I contend Watterson uses to intentionally blur the line about whether Hobbs is real or not. If Hobbs is a doll, how could Calvin have done this to himself? Another example is the arc where Calvin decides he wants to be an escape artist and has Hobbs tie him to a chair.

Considering he’s a tiger, I think Hobbes was being relatively charitable.

This is how one learns there are consequences to our actions. This is the beginning of what is called executive planning in psychology.

There was a similar strip to this one involving Susie. Susie first rolled a big snowball and Calvin remarked “Hah! Stupid girl! You’ll never throw something that size.” Susie took Mohammed to the mountain or rather pushed Calvin into the huge snowball.

I can’t think of any way you could get a child Inside a large snowball. You can’t roll the snow around him. And you couldn’t hollow out a snowball to put him inside.

When I was moving into a new place, my cat was hiding from the movers in a closet on top of a loosely rolled carpet. After the movers left, hours later, I could not immediately find him. Of course, I checked the closet but didn’t see him. Twenty minutes later I heard him meowing. I went back to the closet. He was inside the roll of carpet!
