For those who may have missed my Christmas greeting yesterday – Merry Christmas to all the GoComics community. My gift is a link to Judy Garland, singing the original 1944 lyrics to Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. With many parallels with 2020, it has become a theme for this year’s Christmas, as we all “muddle through somehow”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NQsuIHMm3w
Jef GREAT art, once again. “I’M HAPPY JUST TO . . . BE.” Every early morning, before sunrise, I walk alone. And I am so glad to . . . BE ABLE TOO. What a joy the sunrise is. Xmas Morn, and EVERY DAY. Your oldest fan—Jhon
My morning walk was going to be short so I’d be ready for some video chats but it was so wonderful to be out that I went a bit late. Nice of folks, like me, to leave their Christmas lights on all night or get up before dawn to plug them in! Merry Christmas! 17 F degrees here.
I don’t get up that early and I’m too old for that kind of running, but I’m with Frazz in spirit. At my age and in the middle of pandemic I, too, am glad to just be. Kind of sad that anyone would get their shorts in a knot over the sentiment.
Well, today my best present is to have all of my family alive to send pictures of people stuffed with food waddling after children tearing around in a haze of happiness, stupid little hearts, and other honeyed syrupy images. I’ll waddle right behind you, Frazz. And merry Christmas to all.
Frazz15 hrs · If I’m honest, I approached writing today’s episode with some unease. I’ve kind of locked myself into a theme over the years with Frazz’s Christmas morning run, and a year as weird as this one didn’t seem to be a year for more of the same.
But I’ve learned that limits are as liberating as they are restrictive, that there’s as much to found on familiar paths as there is to be discovered wandering, and you might find more when you’re forced to look harder.
So as long as I’m being honest, this is one of my favorites. It’s personal. This year has taken the closest of friends from me. It tested some deep friendships. It denied me some opportunities and some comfort, which seem small compared to the lost friends, but still loom large enough. But I got to have those friends and I still have those friendships. I’ll have opportunities again, and, really, comfort is overrated.

Hooray! The annual pre-dawn extra-long run of special sanctimony! Christmas, the day when just ordinary self-satisfaction isn’t good enough!

Lots of us are lucky to be breathing that prayer this morning.
Blessings to the afflicted, the fallen, and those who fight and pray for them. And our prayer that 2021 will become a much brighter year for everyone.
