Maybe the solution is to buy 2 identical comforters. Then Opal can store one away where it will never get damaged. They have a dog and cat which will make avoiding snags difficult.
Things that are SO fancy that every day life can’t happen around them are NOT needed in life. Like having a new car and never driving it because it might get dirty or dented is a waste.
This is like the scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise’s mom is able to spot a very small crack in her crystal egg, and she huffs, “my egg is ruined!”.
Years and years and years ago, an aunt of mine put dimpled plastic slipcovers on all her living room furniture. Her explanation was to keep the furniture “nice.” That always puzzled me as no one was ever, ever, allowed in her living room for 364 days of the year (Christmas morning was the single exception). It was like sitting on a bed of nails.

Opal and my mother must have been related. She used that phrase a lot.
