National Thank You Note Day. Sadly, it seems like a lost “art” sending thank you cards for gifts.
National Whiners Day. As the year starts to wind down, National Whiners Day on December 26th allows an opportunity to complain about just roughly anything. If you want, you are allowed to whine about being too tired, or overeating. Maybe you want to whine about having to go back to work or all the cleaning up you have to do. Are the lines long in the return aisle at the store? You can whine about that, too. The possibilities are endless.
However, the essential part of the day to remember two things:
No whining about what you did not get for Christmas or do not haveAnd remember what you do have
Many people are less fortunate than others. Some are struggling to put food on the table or a roof over their heads. Others have no family or friends. Families without a single gift under the tree may simply be thankful to have each other. Others may be fighting disease and illnesses, and some may have coped with all of these. You may want to whine about something (and today you are allowed) but remember to be thankful for each gift you did receive and all that you do have. (And help others when you can).
I had a nice Christmas, but as things turned out, I wasn’t able to make my divinity. I always use a candy thermometer when I make it. My mom was a pro at making it without a candy thermometer, but I prefer using one. So, I was all set to make the divinity a few days ago, but I discovered that somehow my candy thermometer had broken. So, I thought – no big deal, I’ll buy a new one and I could still make my divinity on Christmas eve when I got off work early because we close at 6 pm on Christmas eve. Well, my fridge was pretty stuffed with food for Christmas dinner and when I opened my refrigerator door on Christmas eve to make the divinity, the egg carton fell out of the fridge and all the eggs fell out and smashed on the floor. The stores were all closed by that time so I couldn’t buy more eggs. So instead, I used the time that I would have used making divinity and I cleaned my upstairs bathroom and did some kitchen cleaning too. It is what it is. I have enough other sweet stuff to eat anyway, since one of my Christmas gifts was a tin of assorted candies & treats. I still miss having divinity though.
I’ve seen 4 of my cats chase their tails. Sprinkle half rolls, half spins when she chases her tail. Duncan would spin in the bathtub. Duncan and Oh would spin in both directions.
My brother got an 8 year old cat two days before Christmas. The family wondered is they would bond. Here is a picture from Thursday night showing Chessie and my brother sleeping comfortably together. For those of you not in the know, Steve has Sleep Apnea and depends on a CPAP machine to regulate his breathing during the night.
Aw, that poor dog. :( (Still funny, though.) On another note, saw a squirrel and two sparrows while out walking today. I also saw a golden crowned kinglet outside.

And when it comes it brings good cheer
But when it goes it leaves us here
Then what do we do for the rest of the year.
