I’m sure that guy in Harrisburg don’t stand alone. You’d think they’d have better and more important things to do.

I’m actually wondering why he doesn’t speak Pig English.

I was reading Rolling Stone and saw that someone put “it’s” in an album review when it should have read “its.” An editor for freaking Rolling Stone let that happen. It’s like no one is even trying anymore. I’m not mad, just disappointed.

Does anyone know why they’re running strips from 2018? Something happen to Pastis?

I get much more upset over my own mistakes than someone else’s.

The position of copy editor appears to be moribund, if not already extinct. I can’t count the number of times I have seen “loose” used in place of “lose” in countless online news articles from otherwise reputable outlets, and that’s just one of many examples. Yes, it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard, but I’m just assuming there’s nothing for it unless we address our declining standards of ecudamation as a nashunal prollem.

I think the leak at Three-mile-island caused his hair problem.

This is so funny, I think someone actually did write that letter and since now Pastis knows it irritates him, he just does it more!

The cringe might have started with the “terrible” instead of “terribly.”

It’s almost as if Pastis saw this week coming…

I have mixed feelings about this. Sometimes when I hear a spoken grammatical error, I cringe a little. Sometimes it’s fun to do it on purpose (and maybe make someone else cringe or just to see if they notice). [If I hear something on TV, I will often turn toward my wife. And she will turn toward me and give me that, “I know” or “Yes. I heard it, too.” look or gesture. Sometimes it’s fun to repeat the misusage for my wife’s “benefit”.]

I get irate about the ones who spell WHOA woah. That’s the worst.

C’mon Pastis, you drew the wrong guy! This is the guy who found out that his daughter stole computer gear from Pelosi’s office and is now going to jail!

When I ran a Sports Website, I had a guy who I appointed the Grammar Cop. We cleaned up the posts fast!

“The Guardian” newspaper once ran article that used the paper’s name… and misspelt it…

Sportscasters and sports radio hosts are the worst. How many times a day do I have to hear; “…between you and I.”

Whether this is real or not, it’s funny. Walt Kelly, of Pogo fame, had to deal with a conservative Rhode Island paper editor about a story line making fun of McCarthy in the 50’s. He managed to get around their restrictions AND even made a more scathing comic comment about McCarthy. To the editor’s credit, he printed the comic and even wrote an editorial noting that Walt Kelly put one over them (back in the days POGO was often relegated to the editorial page instead of the funny page because it was deemed too radical for young minds).

It’s the end of an error.

I figure the comics is one place we can all just chill and go with the cartoon, instead of scrutinizing everything to the enth degree! It takes all the fun out of it!

Why do I have a bigger vocabulary than a spell checker? It’s a computer, you can put a whole unabridged dictionary into it. But there’s a squiggly line under “largesse.”

All that’s missing is a misplaced apostrophe. So many good comics this morning!

Autocorrect. Rush job. My hair stands on end when advertisers use nouns as verbs.

If the guy in Harrisburg is so pedantic, he should be complaining about “correct English” not “proper English”.

what bugs me is the improper use of plurals for collective singulars such as (team are instead of team is). It should be team is and teams are.

I was listening to the news the other day and the anchor kept says it’s when he should have been saying its and were when he should have been saying we’re … I guess their are know professional standards any moor

Since computers wiped out the steno pool, the managers now have to do editing. These entitled little millennials think it’s harassment to ask that a court document have proper spelling and grammar.

So I looked up eror on Google and went to Wiktonary. Its a legitimate word, it says so, and this is a quote

“Frim English error, from Middle English errour, from Old French error, from Latin error (“wandering about”).”

Do editors even exist any more? I read a lot, sometimes a book a day, and have to say that I’m appalled at what getsprinted. My mother was a newspaper editor and would be rolling over in her grave (If she had one) at what gets printed these days. On that note, I wonder how and where that term got started.

My sister lives across the river from Harrisburg and works in the city. If she were a male, that would be her in the picture.

Now my hair looks like that too.

I see it more frequently than I should on news sites. I get that sometimes pages are updated quickly and errors happen, but it does seem like proper grammar is not viewed as being very essential anymore.

I don’t get it.

I’m reminded of my Fifth Grade teacher (way back in the middle of the last century of the last millennium). I don’t think she gave much thought to her students’ self-esteem, and today she’d probably be harried out of the teaching profession as a right old harpy unfit to be around impressionable young minds. To my young eyes, she appeared to be as old as Stonehenge and built along the lines of the monoliths of that site. She wore livid floral dresses, usually colored to match the blue tint of her hair (which gave her the appearance of a cross between a cockatoo and a GE refrigerator), cat’s eye glasses studded with rhinestones, stockings that would probably turn a bullet, and those orthopedic oxfords that added two or three inches to her already formidable height. BUT she taught us that: 1. Spelling always counted, and; 2. Correct grammar was required, not optional. And the funny thing is, we learned and did not feel abused by it.

At least English teachers will always have a job with all the poorly spoken and written English.

Grammar errors can be annoying, but what is more so is why they are so common. How often is grammar even taught in schools these days?

The longest comment thread on GoComics I’ve ever been a part of was about grammar. People who care are passionate on the subject. I fussed at one of the cartoonists here about a misspelled word, and he said it didn’t matter. I gave him a come-to-Jesus talk about being a professional, and I’ve never spotted an error since. Errors are not only sloppy, they mess up whatever punchline or idea the writer is trying to present because some readers hit the error like it’s a brick wall.

Don’t get me started on the ‘How come’ idiom. IT’S NOT EVEN A WORD, and ‘why’ is so much more efficient in a sentence. And shorter!

I love it. And yet, no mention that all of this is coming from animals… People are goofy.

Agreed, we must stop those people. Fifteen credits of English and Lit plus 56 years means I don’t give a ship.

My father worked for a paper in advertising for 32 years. He always said that the 2 words newspaper people feared the most were shirt and public. If they got missprinted in ad copy, someone was in big trouble.

I feel pretty lucky that I drew a 1st grade teacher that taught phonics back in the early 60’s. Learned all the rules, and I somehow managed to remember a lot of them. Later in 5th grade, I was even taught to diagram sentences. Bet they don’t teach that anymore!

I go to Harrisburg PA almost every year. There is a strip club in an old, converted Dairy Queen that’s been there for at least 25 years. It gives me the heebie-jeebies just driving by.

Hey—at least me know how right good sentences …

Have a lady in a club who announce to everyone most of the time that she is a “grammarian” and if she corrects you it “just so you will learn”. I avoid her as much as possible as do most.

I commented to a post, a year or so ago, about bad spelling, grammar and using texting style for writing comments in forums such as this, shows carelessness and sloppiness. The reply from the original post’s author said his writing was how communication is evolving and I need to “Get with the program.”

My reply, “Bad or poor writing skills shows ignorance and creates a lack of credibility, regardless of the subject matter.”

My favorite ST:TOS episode is the one about futuristic spelling: The Trouble With Teribbles.
