I think I get them, but the message on my land line (my only phone) says “I screen all calls” and the 5-10 calls I get each day usually end in a hang up. Those that persevere usually leave a recording with the first 5-10 seconds cut off … no matter, they all get deleted!
As aggravating as ‘extended car warranty’ stuff is, I find ‘over the hill’ celebrities like Tom Seleck, Mike Rowe & Joe Theisman/Joe Namath pushing various worthless crap on TV even worse. Then there’s the cellar dwelling millennial crying to J.G. Wentworth that “I want my money NOW!” … sheesh!
Back when the extended warranty calls were live callers, I would ask, “Which car?” Some would say, “Your new one.” Some would say, " The one with the expiring warranty." Some would just hang up…
I get hit with ads for extended warranties and various “insurance policies.” If I took up on all of them, I’d be spending several hundred dollars a month.
Then there is the issue that the car warranty won’t pay for a broken refrigerator, the appliance insurance won’t pay for a broken gas line and the insurance with the gas company won’t pay for a blown transmission. Even within these policies, there are exceptions of things they don’t cover.
So I took those several hundreds of dollars a month and put them in a savings account that I keep topped off at several thousand dollars. It covers everything and there are no exemptions.
I I die with the money, it can go towards my funeral. I am so old, that I am priced out of life insurance.
I started getting these calls when my current car was three months old, and they’re still going more than seven years later. Extended warranty telemarketers are one of the lowest forms of life on the planet.
It’s more fun to egg them on, Once they ask what car you have (You don’t know? You called me telling me my warranty was expiring!) OK, I didn’t realize I still had a warranty on my 1980 ford pinto.
My car will be 17 years old this May! With only a few dings and kicks, I have 47,500 miles on it! I am STILL getting mail about the warranty, etc. Give me a break!
I agree with all the above but I have a question. I occasionally back trace a number just to see what I can find. Many show up as unassigned, unregistered, unknown subscriber. So, if that’s true, it seems that the phone companies could ‘block’ access to their unassigned numbers. When a new subscriber activates an account, tpc could give them a security pass code to activate the account.
Also in back tracing, I might find an actual subscriber but also find that residence – not a business – shows 5 land lines, and 2 or more cell numbers, but only two family members or associates. Don’t have to wonder what they do for a living. Otherwise they wouldn’t be calling me about my well aged vehicles or whatever.
Point is, phone companies turn huge profits and do little to increase infrastructure to underserved areas. Average subscribers pay a relatively high subscription rate, and must follow certain rules to comply with regs. Many folks have lost their life savings in these phone calls because they don’t have someone or some process that protects them.
Why aren’t the phone companies taking a more active role in protecting their customers. The only word I can think of is indifference.
I love the iPhone setting to send all unknown numbers directly to voicemail. It’s a pain occasionally when it is someone I want to talk to, but I have been getting up to 3 of those calls a day. Also century link has an option that screens my land line; live callers have to dial one. If it is a really long robocall it might get through but the phone stopped ringing so much, it works pretty well. You can program certain numbers to bypass the screen. And interestingly enough while I was typing this my cell got one of those calls!
Wouldn’t like you like to have a dollar (clam) for every time you answered your phone thinking it was the health department calling about scheduling for your COVID Vaccine, but instead, finding out it was these warranty cretins? ;)
I don’t know why there is so much hostility to Extended Car Warranty calls, They just want to give you one last chance to take advantage of their offer and they are very considerate because their last chance offer is never ending.
And they always threaten (promise?) that this your last chance to take advantage of their XXXXX YYYYY ZZZZZ !!!!! offer! And have been doing so for about seven years so far. Oh, if I only had some boots to be trembling in!
