My characters are not assigned exact ages. Some are simply “parents”, others are “kids”, and a few are “ babies”. The reasons are mostly branding and marketing related, but time changes people dramatically. If my characters were affected by the passing of time, the reader might have trouble recognizing them.

I love it—dialogue that ends with a colon! Sometimes implied action is the strongest. :-)
