Of course the cartoonist is just trying to make a joke, but the idea that the stock market is only a form of gambling is a result of Marxist economic theory. Marx thought only physical labor created economic value and that investors were just parasites living off the efforts of the workers. This is just one of many examples of how deeply Marx’s views have infiltrated modern life.
If you were long this past week it did not feel like gambling. The outcome at the end of each day was a sure thing as “the house” raked it in. Of course, at this point you have to stay in the game…just until you get even.
The stock market enabled me to retire early in 1996 with a total net worth of less than $500,000. Mutual funds spread over many sectors reduced the risk so it wasn’t so much of a gamble.
Legalized gambling from home is about as safe a risk as delivering cases of alcohol to alcoholics for free. Tons of money to be made off people with addictive personalities. Legally.
Actually, if you compare how income has grown for executives and workers, you’ll see that Marx was on to something. As far as the stock market being gambling, just look at what happened with Game Stop.

The worst (or at least most annoying) part is all of the advertising of gambling on TV. It’s almost as bad as political campaign ads.

The Stock Market is legalized gambling, and it has very little correlation to the actual economy

With a few exceptions, the gratification just takes a little longer.
