I was in a meeting with my supervising pastor, and he was chewing on the tip of a Bic pen. As we got up to leave, he had blacked out the whole top of his tongue!
I remember in grade school somebody in my class experimenting with sucking on the end of the pen to see if he could make it stop writing while it was moving on the paper. As you may guess he suddenly ended up with a mouth full of ink . . .
I’m trying to remember when I saw it – maybe 20 years ago? But there was a pen when the back end was specifically designed to allow someone to chew on it. It could withstand cleaning, it was a little softer than hard plastic, it wouldn’t come off. It seemed brilliant, but it disappeared and I’ve never seen them again.
In my case, it wasn’t pens. However, a pencil eraser lasted an average of about 30 seconds. Of course, that was back in the day. Well, back in the decade. Come to think of it, it was back in the last century. Actually, it was back in the last century of the last millennium. I think I’ll just quietly toddle off back into the mists of senility now. . . .
I haven’t fact check this, but here it is: At least one manufacturer of pens with caps put holes in the caps in case someone aspirates the cap. The hole supposedly allows enough air to pass to keep the victim alive until rescued.
Evidently Earl is doing a crossword puzzle…..with a pen. Maybe he’s got more on the ball than we’re led to believe. Or maybe he’s just wildly overconfident.

He should try different colors until he finds one that she likes.

Earl, be daring and so with it, go with neon red mustache.

Not to mention the colour of his teeth, tongue and lips.

Maybe he should try a pen with green in. Then he could have a green mustache just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

I did that when I was a kid. I remember it wasn’t pleasant.

Make a deal, Earl…you won’t go for the blue mustache if Opal agrees never to try to be the blue-haired lady…

(Same joke in two strips (Frank and Earnest for the curious among us.)). Going to have to ruminate on that one.

These days most of us think twice about things we touch or especially put in our mouths. But the blue mustache is worth it.

Blue shade is too light for my liking. My favorite is closer to the blue from the skies and a pretty girl’s eyes….
