Hotmail locked my account two years ago. Claimed I was sending suspicious messages, which was a crock — all I did was report phishing scams. To unlock my account, they wanted my mobile phone number, but I don’t have a mobile phone.
I just went through that last week with Centurylink… again. I found a service and repair number on an old paper bill, which I have saved for just such an event, and was able to work it out through there.

You have to be able to fall back on the Old School ways for just these kind of instances where new methods inevitably fail.
