There was an Esmeralda in “Notre Dame de Paris” or “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” who wasn’t a witch but was accused of being one.

I wonder if this strip was influenced by that.

I remember when B.C. and The Wizard of Id began. The “That was no lady, that was my wife” joke was old even then. :)
