I suppose Frazz could have said because the errors cancel out, but then the comic is only four blocks long, and doesn’t have a punch line.

I used to help friends make decisions that way. It wasn’t whether the first toss was heads or tails, but whether they wanted to continue that indicated their inner preference.

Freud mentions the same. Or was that Jung?

Why would Caulfield think that Frazz has an unflattering BMI? He’s as thin as a pole.

There’s right and wrong, and there’s statistics.

I used my height and “ideal” BMI to determine my best weight. I’m not quite down there yet but close and feel a lot better than when I was at the bottom of Class II Obese. It’s not easy and you have to want it but it is so worth it.

Yes! Thank you! BMI is not meant for individual analysis.

I just got my BMI readings back and discovered I’m 8 inches undertall.

Ah, and so we learn about the difference between random error and systemic error, or bias.

Speaking of being accurate across larger groups, the height of the average American male is 5’9" and the height of the average American female is 5’4". Also, on average, heart disease will knock off 0.16% of the US population this year, and cancer will take another 0.15%. How is knowing any of that particularly useful for any given person?

People with big muscles are considered overweight using BMI. You would see that the Chrises from the MCU almost all have “unhealthy” BMI scores., because it only goes by weight and height and muscle weighs more than fat. But the point is that the issues average out over a large enough population.
