Of course it is funny for him to ask after he says he knows all the answers, but there is a very good/serious reason also why he might do this. It is like asking, “Do you know why you are here?” I can be like a psychologist asking questions to get patients to bring answers (and other things) out of themselves.

Teachers ask their students many questions that they know the answers to. They may ask probing questions to get them to search their own minds.

God knows when He asks Adam (and Eve) after they have sinned and hidden themselves “Where are you?” He knows what Cain has done when he asks Cain, “Where is your brother, Abel?”

It’s a trick question.

Oh, oh, messed up! As the great detective Columbo would have deduced, if this guy really knew the answers to everything, he wouldn’t have any need to ask that question!

the response I usually hear nowadays from the one’s that ‘know all the answers’ (experts) is “now that’s a really good question!!”(by saying this they get plenty of time to make up an answer – to which I now know – they don’t have an answer)

Anyone who thinks they have ALL the answers are only fooling themselves.

A principle I picked up a while ago that I’ve since had many opportunities to quote:

Absolutely everybody is absolutely ignorant about almost everything.

People like him who think they know everything are very annoying to those of us who actually do.
