I’m guessing a lava tube. Which would explain the guard dog, although not the lack of a sign saying, don’t come this way……..

An ugly fight developed over the thermostat setting that required calling in Human Resources. Tarzan ultimately quit over the issue and The Phantom had to finish the story.

LOL, a saved watch dog, bites an enemy’s throat later in your adventure. Woe betides, Betty, West, Merala, M’Lunga, Lukah, O’Rorke, the Patrol, the Seething mass of grunting, struggling men, Rathor the Shan (unseen) dead, and then there is Wong Tai, his hand on the grip of a Colt 45. Also, a guard dog is lurking in the shadow, he remembers his wrestling buddy, leopard trunks, how the white meat did not kill him. With a great leap

A brilliant deduction, West. Couldn’t you say that before Tarzan charged at the dog/wolf?

Too warm? Leopard-skin shorts are the only way to go.

Betty is getting “warm”, eh? Now I wonder what that means after Tarzan ape-man handled Merala’s werewolf so smartly…….

“No,” Tarzan disagreed. “Listen! Betty, I’m about to give you five good reasons to shut your yap!” 1948 Tarzan didn’t know nuthin’ ‘bout no feminism. He’d never even heard the word. He was always chivalrous to the ladies, right up until they got uppity with him, expressing their own opinions and such. Then he put the hammer down. Hard. ;-) (Just joking. Tarzan’s raised fist pose in panel 4 was just too tempting. Tarzan was always chivalrous to the ladies!)
