President Biden tried to give police additional funding, the Republicans are trying their best to underfund the ATF and won’t approve Biden’s candidate to lead the department.
“Defunding the police” is a misnomer. First, it is a slogan coined by civilian protesters – not the government nor a political party. Second, the way politicians are talking about implementing it is to transfer money in order for it to be spent more effectively – not cut off all funding altogether. Third, at this point it is still mostly talk – with most changes not to take effect until the next year’s budget.
Mr. Payne: please read this. It shows that the National Association of Police Officers rank congressional Democrats significantly higher in their support of the NAOP than their Republican counterparts. They should know. I don’t expect you to apologize, but maybe you will choose not to continue this lie in the future.
It seems that Henry is saying that our present method of policing is not working, so let’s not consider any other method to address the situation. Besides, defunding the police IS NOT a Democratic Party proposal, or even a faint dream; it is a blatant lie by a Republican Party that is expert at lying.
Nothing constructive. Simply division and dog whistling. Yes Henry, gun ownership IS out of control, but how about you show us the correlation between the two. I can assure you crime is out of control, mainly because three other things that feed directly into crime are out of control. Poverty, homelessness and drug addiction. All of which are fixable if only the politicians had the will.
It turns out progressives’ anti-police rhetoric is not helping Democrats among minority voters, it is hurting them. Data analyst David Shor told New York magazine that the “defund the police” campaign drove Hispanic voters away from Democratic candidates last fall. “We raised the salience of an ideologically charged issue that millions of nonwhite voters disagreed with us on,” he said. he said. Polling by the Manhattan Institute finds that among Black New Yorkers, only 17 percent want to decrease the number of police officers in their neighborhoods, while 62 percent would like to see stepped-up policing of quality-of-life issues, such as graffiti and public urination.“Large numbers of Black and Latino voters,” reports the New York Times, reject the left’s approach to “the very issues — race and criminal justice — that progressives assumed would rally voters of color to their side.”
The US’s murder rate increased by 25 percent or more in 2020. It comes after decades of drops in murders and crime more broadly in the US. Per John Roman, a criminal justice expert at NORC at the University of Chicago: The 2020 murder surge “is the largest increase in violence we’ve seen since 1960, when we started collecting formal crime statistics,"… “We’ve never seen a year-over-year increase even approaching this magnitude.”
So now the Democrats have to scramble to deflect blame for their failing dopey wokey policies with more rhetoric and propaganda. For the Democrats truth does not matter… It is only the narrative that they think they can make you believe that matters.
