If I remember correctly, though….Goofus and Gallant were blonds…but it’s been a long time. My favorite feature of the Highlights children’s magazine. I know purchase a subscription for my grandchildren!
My grandfather gave me a subscription to Highlights before I learned to read. My mother would read Goofus and Gallant to me. I never liked Gallant, he was too prissy and proper. 50 years later, my mother fessed up she couldn’t stand him either but pretended to anyway.
Ah, I remember those two from the dentist’s office when I was a kid (late 90s, early 00s). Actually, my (Christian) homeschool booklets had little comics periodically, and the main character was also a goody-two-shoes. I knew he was right, but maybe it was because he was… too perfect. Maybe that’s why Gallant (and similar characters) come across as prissy; they’re too good and you never see any struggle to do the right thing. I mean, Goofus is one-sided in the opposite way…

I don’t remember them. We’re kids supposed to learn good from bad by the shape of a person’s face? Or facial expressions?
