That gets rid of the annoying MOTORISTS (in theory at least). The town where I grew up actually had a pair of one-way streets that came together at a 4-way intersection: > + < … There were amazingly few fender benders because: Anybody who was likely to use those streets was almost certain to be locals, and all four of the roads were maintained… very seldom if at all.

At least he’s ready to greet his wife with a smile when she comes home.

No way.

Completely illegal, of course. Unless the “road” is already private property.

Dagnabbit. I would have sworn there was a real life story about a town accidently doing this to either the whole town or part of it a few years ago, but my google search is turning up nothing. Does anyone else remember reading or hearing about this story or have I lost my mind?

Marvellous. We’ve been hearing and reading about people who believe that the rules are for everyone BUT them, now we have the diametrically opposite … Go figure.

Some mothers on a street put up signs to slow down and even would stand outside to scream at you if you were doing more than 5 miles an hour. They got reported and that ceased. Keep the kids off the streets!

This would be awesome for a street hockey game.

I’ve wanted to do that, more than once.

He’s missing the fence on the other side of his property.

I like it ! But I already live that way (acres between neighbours, the house is almost a mile in from the road, lots of trees an broad fields).

Everybody wins. Bert gets no traffic. No one has to see Bert.

At least there’s less traffic.

Our city used to have two hospitals about two blocks apart. The main road had Hospital signs one over the other pointing to each facility. (In opposite directions.)

Gentrification? Isolation? Nope, inspiration.

That gives me an idea——that’ll probably get me arrested.

I Greece, they sometime do that. They put no entry signs at each side of the street. Only the locals know the posts are not legit, and ignore them. Peace and tranquillity assured.

Cute…but I already live on a privately maintained gravel road over a mile from a county maintained gravel road that connects to ANOTHER gravel county road that is almost 3 miles in either direction from the nearest pavement. I really don’t get much traffic in front of my house…and I love it!

But the dog can STILL crap on his lawn…

I’ve done something related. I placed fake yard-sale signs directing searchers to keep circling the same block…

Talked to a city patrolman who pulled a old guy over for going the wrong way on a one-way street. The street had recently been changed to one-way and the driver was very angry. “But I don’t want to go THAT way, I always go THIS way!” Officer tried to explain the changes and finally turned on lights and siren and led the old codger against traffic to his destination. Then asked him in the future please go the other way on this street.

Gotta get me some signs!

In order to discourage fast through traffic from an off-road vehicle maintenance business on the corner, my Pasadena neighborhood had two unusually high speed bumps installed. Well, that back-fired; the off-roaders would come from miles around to enjoy the bounce.

Kind of what the Brits call a LTN (Low Traffic Neighborhood), where streets are blocked in the middle to create cul de sacs that can be passed through by foot and bikes only. Forcing cars to use the streets passing those residential areas instead of cutting through.

Brilliant!

It’ll take care of a lot of things. No more delivery vehicles. No more road maintenance vehicles keeping the street clear and clean so you have to take care of that yourself. No more trash and recycling pick up vehicles for the houses. No more pizza or other food deliveries. No more school bus pick up or drop off if there are kids. Much slower mail delivery too.

We live on Failing Street at the bottom corner of One Way and Dead End. We haven’t had a visitor since 1954.

Cheaper than a 10 foot wall with razor wire.

I guess his mail comes to a box at the Post Office?

I suspect the cops will ignore the signs when they come calling…

Of course, with only two houses on the block (on each side, I assume by the dimensions of the drawing), the driveways are on the cross streets. :-) I hope the mailman has a walking route.

So now they’ll be able to leave but not come back.

The signs ought to say “One Way” and “Other Way.”
