Sitting waiting for the car to be serviced and listened to one woman unveil her life story to someone on the phone! Why she thought we all needed to know was beyond me!
Based on my experience, my speculation would be that the caller was informing Janis of the news that some mutual acquaintance has women’s body part issues. The key is the last panel.
My wife and I have common curtesy. We both walk away when the phone call is for either. I go to my office if the call is for me to not bother her while reading etc.
During a course I was taking the instructor told about talking on the phone to his secretary with whom he was also having an affair and was pleading with him for a raise. After a while a voice said, “give her the damn raise.”
He walked away because he didn’t want to hear any of it and now he’s going to HAVE to listen to the blow by blow replay. Then, and may God have mercy on is soul, a 45 minute commentary.
I was on a cardio machine at the gym. A young lady was next to me on another machine, gabbing with someone. To pass the time I counted every ‘like’ that she said. But I got distracted at 81, and lost count.
Woman on a very crowded Amtrak car having a loud phone conversation to the people staring at her, “Do you mind? This is private!” I will never understand why I (or someone else) didn’t tell her to go somewhere private then. Maybe shock, maybe curiosity?

And why is she concerned? Why should she want to keep it a secret?
This is her long-established pattern, though: keeping things from Arlo.

My wife has two friends like that. She gets about 5% of the words in every conversation.

I would say he heard exactly 50% of the conversation!

People are always surprised when I can generally easily hear both sides of the conversation. Maybe I have very sharp hearing.

If he were in this household he would know every word, the old man demands the speaker be on for every call.
