Don’t laugh. My brother-in-law died August 12. He had been hospitalized with blocked bile ducts and while there was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. He had been sent home to get stronger and gain some weight so they could start chemo and radiation. He died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism. My sister had been dealing with wheezing and shortness of breath while taking care of him and was putting off her own symptoms. She had been on inhalers, steroids and antibiotics. She went in for a follow up with her primary care physician and a CT scan showed probable lung cancer and a partially collapsed lung. She is scheduled for a biopsy in September. So while dealing with her husband dying she is now dealing with a possible fatal diagnosis herself. My niece is helping her with dad’s estate. Fortunately they found an old will and are working with an estate attorney to settle his affairs and get hers in order. We are blessed with a smart niece/daughter to take care of it all. We are reeling. My two younger sisters and I are now working on our wills/power of attorney etc. We aren’t getting any younger and it’s never too late to start preparing for your dementia, sickness, or death.
I remember my mom in her early 90’s I told my sister we need to get her funeral worked on without mom, knowing our mom she would have adjected. Did not know 2 years later we still plan on her service.

It’s real easy to get on thin ice with the older generation and you need to watch your tongue when in a conversation with them.

I’m still of relatively sound mind. As long as you give me a few minutes (like a few hours worth, sometimes) to remember the word I wanted.

“Relatively sound” has been the story of my life. Why change now?
DawnQuinn1 about 3 years ago
You go Opal. Show her who is still REAL sharp in mind.
DawnQuinn1 about 3 years ago
“Old folks” are much smarter and sharp than ever given credit for. Just ask Einstein, Gandhi, Churchill, FDR, and others.

Keep in mind…they can always change their will.

I think she possesses awfully good sound of mind. Notice how she picked up on the use of “relatively”!
pbr50138 about 3 years ago
Sylvia just means Opal’s a relative, that makes sounds.
mikeywilly about 3 years ago
Sound of mind, except where relatives are concerned!!
