Remember when you had to go to school, thinking all the time how disastrous and awful it is – till you graduated, entered “real life” and nostalgically realize that this was the best time in your life?
In 1958, I was in 11th grade, I had the flu twice in September. The first I was out for one week, Then I went back to school for a week. Then the second was after the week in school, I was out for 2 weeks with it. Later on my mother what I was writing from the blackboard. She said I was going to the eye doctor. I needed glasses. At the end of the year the teacher asked my parents to come in. She told them I would barely pass. She suggested to them that take the year over, because I would have a rough time in high school. So that is what was decided. It was the best thing for me. The first time I made second honor roll, my mother up to my second sixth grade teacher, who my sister had and liked, since the other had moved. She my second sixth grade teacher to mail the clipping to the other teacher, since she had moved away. In 9th grade I madefirst honor 5 times and second honor roll once. I am now 74my eye sight is very bad. I’m legally blind without my glasses. But they still drafted in the Marines in 1968.

Good idea, Sally. Since today is Labor Day, the school would have been closed anyway once you got there.

Probably inhaled too many pain fumes from the graffiti she has been applying to the school walls.

Not a good sign for the school year when she has to stay home sick on the first day of the year.
