In cartoon land anything is possible. However, as we come to re-realize: Lucy always has excuses for her miscues; she never ever is one to say, “I’m sorry, I will try better.” A typical scab on the otherwise lovely days in Peanuts Land. but what is life for any of us without a bit of disappointment? Do not challenges help us to persevere and overcome the disappointments in our lives?
Are we supposed to imagine someone bribing or threatening these kids to make them keep playing a game they are no good at and can’t possibly enjoy? It’s one thing for Charlie Brown to keep thinking Lucy might let him kick the football once every year, or for Linus to think that this Halloween he’ll finally win the Great Pumpkin’s approval. This is a whole team of kids who put themselves through this dozens of times every summer with no hope things will ever get better!
(And I’m not even mentioning the fact that baseball would be boring beyond belief even if they were good at it.)
“The best baseball excuse ever was advanced by Billy Loes of the Dodgers, ‘when he said he had lost a ground ball in the sun. Simple, direct, inarguable.”

We always make some stupid excuse for our problems.
Decepticomic about 3 years ago
Yeah, she’s awful, but how focused were YOU on your part in the game to be able to record all of that, Linus?
mjb515 about 3 years ago
She has room for improvement, at least.

She gotta wear shades
Ellis97 about 3 years ago
Then wear some shades. It’s that easy.

Like that had nothing to do with their win-loss record.

Sun in her eyes? On a ground ball?
jagedlo about 3 years ago
The only reason her fielding average was .000 is that they don’t go into negative numbers…

Lucy’s got the sun in her eyes, and her head in the clouds!

I’m just realizing – what position does Linus play?
knight1192a about 3 years ago
Yeah right, Lucy. Just admit the truth. You can’t play and have ten million excuses for why you’re the worst player on the team.

Some people always have an excuse.

That’s why outfielders wear sunglasses.
