Buttered Corn Day. I will have corn for dinner tonight.
National Sponge Cake Day. I’ll do without the cake.
National Cuban Sandwich Day
National Ride the Wind Day. National Ride the Wind Day commemorates the anniversary of the first human-powered flight to win the Kremer prize. On August 23rd of 1977, the Gossamer Condor flew the first figure-eight course specified by the Royal Aeronautical Society at Minter Field in Shafter, California. Slowly cruising at only 11 mph, it traveled a distance of 2,172 meters. The Gossamer Condor was built by Dr. Paul B MacCready. Amateur cyclist and hang-glider pilot Bryan Allen piloted the aircraft.
She’s “kitty” when we’re talking about/to her in normal operations. She’s “Tibbers” when there are treats to be had. She always responds to her name for that reason.
I planned it that way; if there’s a natural disaster and we have to move quickly, or if she gets out (she’s an indoor cat), I wanted to stack the deck towards getting hands on her quickly and safely.
My cats have all come when called—selectively, Darcy always knew when naptime was, and would come right downstairs and onto my prone body. Simon will always come if he thinks there’s food involved. And so on with all my previous animals. Food does seem to be a motivator.
Route Nine is proud to represent cats who pretend they don’t hear themselves being called. In fact, he could win a Gold medal in the upcoming Cat Olympics. I wonder what some of the other events are. Bullying (Chesney is a shoe-in), Crankiness (Lily comes to mind), Adorableness (Oliver wins all 3)……….
Follow up on the two black brothers. Susan called to see how they were doing. The mom said they’re perfect for their family. One is Bronco and one is Falcon. The 8yr son said he can tell them apart but nobody else can. At the time, both were sleeping on the 12yr girls’ bed.
Then she said that yesterday she had both in her hands and stepped out onto the back porch to show her neighbor the kittens. Her son ran out, yelling NO! Susan said they can’t ever go outside! The mom tried to reassure him that it was just this once and she was holding them. NO! That’s not what Susan, he cried. I don’t think those kittens will ever see outside again except through a door or window.
In that case, we need to be more patient with cats. Heck, we need to be more patient with everyone. On another note, saw a dragonfly, a butterfly, four robins, and a rabbit while out walking today.
My two cat generally come when I call, with some haste. I only call them for meals and treats. Never when they have to go to the vet. Then, it’s an ambush!
I took my cat Gracie to the vet today for a 2nd ear check for ear infection that has been treated for 6 weeks. Today it is all well and she is dismissed from further vet checks until her yearly next year.

Unless your call was preceeded by the sound of a can opener. Then they materialize out of thin air.

Is that a pattern in the upholstery of the chair, or is it covered in cat hair?

Every one of my cats, past and present, come when called except Lucy, a tiny tortie who lived to be 19.

If your cats don’t come when they’re called, you probably haven’t used the magic word…

My husband does this when I have a task requiring more than 2 hands. By the time he responds, I have usually found or made an appropriate tool… ;-)

With my two, it depends on what they are doing when I call.

In the U.K., it’s called “in your own time” and cats invented it. :)
