I don’t get it. From what I understand it, the Snyder cut was a far better version than the original (not my opinion, I never watched the original and I have no access to HBO Max.)
Lotsa discussion – not about the joke itself, but the implication that everyone should “get it”, or be ‘smart enough’ to google it, etc.I’ll put my $0.02 in:For one, I agree with the earlier poster: if you have to google a joke, it’s not a good one. It’s referring to a specific piece of knowledge or pop culture that many don’t have. For example, I have a close friend who is so ignorant of/indifferent to pop culture that she doesn’t even know what the Hunger Games are about. For another: good humor is less so when it’s so narrowly specific…I’d offer that good humor is timeless and anyone can “get it”. Do you think that in 3 or 5 or 15 years, anyone is going to have the vaguest idea what ‘the Snyder effect’ means? If you want a good example of a “timeless” joke: go to youtube and look up Buddy Hackett telling his famous duck joke.
I have never figured out why people like the darker films, to me it is just a production that was cheap with the props and by going darker, just hiding the details. Most of the Batman movies are a great example of using a darker approach resulting in mediocre stories that are not entertaining or worth watching a second time. Today’s comic, judging by the comments, is an example where it is not working here either.
They REALLY need to keep that guy away from superheroes. FOREVER! Anybody who thinking that the idea of Batman NOT KILLING is “f***ing stupid” has no clue about how superheroes actually work.

From Wikipedia:
Zack Snyder’s Justice League, often referred to as the “Snyder Cut”, is the 2021 director’s cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League.

I guess you had to be there, to understand what the joke is here.

Today is going to have more “Doom and gloom” than usual – but it will be a Marvel – which seems wrong (like it’s in the wrong universe).

Crappy cartoon today.

The dark smoky background reminds me more of The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder.

In glorious 4:3 ratio cinemascope. Har har.

Clever, actually.
That’s the trouble with the older comics. It needs younger readers, but the oldies don’t get the jokes aimed at the younger kids and vice versa.

The 2017 movie was 121 minutes long. The director’s cut is 242 minutes long.

Things are a bit dark in the Snyder Universe. If you mix it with Tim Burton you get an invisible movie.

That, and about 2/3rd’s of it needs to be in slow motion to make it agonizingly long.

I hate movies that are so (literally) dark that it’s really hard to see on the screen or the computer!
carlostercero about 3 years ago
Agree; if you have to do research to understand a comic strip, the writer has failed.
