I’d probably freak out at the sight of a guy in a mascot costume.

Thinking he hurt the mascot and will have to fill in for him. Boys meet him later thinking it’s just the mascot. Hilarity ensues.

For the first time I’m having trouble relating to this strip.

Let me guess. He injured the mascot so bad he is forced to take its place. Probably wind up wrestling Broch and being a hero to his kids too. Then he can knock their heads together.
