Ooh, we may indeed be headed for Natasha and Violet’s story! Can’t wait! (And I wonder if mice count in the “one, two, many, lots” of Discworld’s trolls or the "one, two, three, four, hrair " of the Watership Down rabbits?)
This does remind me of a story (probably true) of a group of four or five Marines who, many years ago, visited a nearby Army post late one night to . . . appropriate . . . some unused lumber that they needed for a building project. They had just started loading it on their truck when one of the sentries came by accompanied by the Officer of the Day. The Marine sergeant in charge of the . . . appropriation mission . . . quickly told his men to start unloading the wood back onto the pile. The OOD (a lieutenant, I assume) demanded to know what they thought they were doing. The Marine sergeant replied that they had been told to unload this wood at this location. “Oh no you don’t, not on my post, you’re not!” replied the OOD, “You get this stuff back on your truck right now!” “But sir, our lieutenant said to . . .” the sergeant tried to protest, but the OOD cut him off, “Nothing doing! If he thinks he can get away with dumping his trash on this post, he’s got another thing coming. Now, you men get every bit of this wood back on your truck and get off of my post!”
So, they loaded up the entire pile of lumber under the watchful eye of the sentry and the OOD and were escorted off of the base.
It could be a true story. There are some young lieutenants who are eager and naive enough to accompany a sentry late at night.
Why? Asked the kitten, Why would you sample, those apples? Oh, those little Robber Mice were clever and slick! They made up a lie, and they made it up quick!
This is no time for pleasantries, Beatrix. You has done a great job caught em crooked criminals red handed trying to steals and contaminates the food. Is this live? Put on the Breaking News sign already!
I have a new recipe to try – Apple & Tomato soup. I found the recipe when I put Georgia’s two main harvest items into a Google search. The soup looks very easy to make. However, I always like to tweak recipes and try new ingredients (thinking some heavy cream would soften the acidity of the tomatoes).
Off the countertop kitties! We are going back into production mode!
About 10 years ago my son planted 2 apple trees, and a pear tree in our baack yard. Now I’m calling all our neighbors since we are burried in apples, Now callling all Robber Mice , (bears too) .
Years ago, I was helping a friend pick up fallen apples while my dog lounged in the shade of the tree. He watched us and finally his curiosity got the better of him. He got up, picked up an apple, lay down with it, licked it, nibbled at it, finally gave me a look of total bewilderment, of “Why do you want these things?”
Good news: the second part of my new wheelchair, the part with the actual wheelchair, arrived this evening. No assembly required except for the part where I have to switch the controls from the right to the left, after I get more zip ties to replace the ones I have to cut off when moving the wires. And install the seat and the back and the seat belt. And all the other accessories that didn’t come in the first two boxes. Maybe the rest will come tomorrow or the next day. I hope. I’m going to see if the boy can finish putting it together tomorrow morning after he gets off work. Well as much as he can with the parts we have.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: So, Thomios, what is on the menu for tonight’s dinner?
Thomios: It’s time for apple harvest, so I’m preparing all-Nile apple pie for a lovely desert dessert.
Beatrixia: Nothing like a slice of apple pie with a piece of sharp cheese.
Thomios: Last time I checked, there was no cheese in the pantry. Sorry, but I don’t know if there is any available right now.
Sound of giggling in the background
Beatrixia: Hmm, those giggles did sound awfully familiar.

Oh, come on, come on, come on, come on
Didn’t it make you feel that tarts were part of your plan? Yeah
And isn’t it true you need to get everything you need while you possibly can?
Honey, you know it is
And each time you tell yourself that, well the Woman has enough
But when you get caught, fakin’ it can be tough
I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and
Take it!
Take another little piece for your tarts now, baby (whoa, bake it)
Bake it, those itty bitty apple tarts now, darling,
Yeah, yeah, yeah (whoa, have a)
Have another little piece of that quart now, baby
You know you got it, ’cause it makes you feel good
Oh, yes indeed
