Coming from PA, my first duty station was at Jacksonville NAS. The first thing I noticed was there was NO potholes in the roads.

55° was considered freezing. Rode motorcycles year round.

Of course, the late afternoon downpours and having two hurricanes during the year dampened my enthusiasm a bit.

I live in Florida and in the winter, I take cold-weather vacations to scratch that itch for wanting to see snow. A week or two is usually enough! LOL

In Florida we break out our winter wardrobe, tube socks to wear with our flip flops. We also endure the driving habits of snowbirds until spring.

I think Florida weather is overrated, considering the humidity and hurricanes.

Someplace there’s no hurricanes, tornadoes, sinkholes, sharks, alligators, or little old blue haired lady’s driving in the fast lane with their left turn signal on.

I live in South Central Texas, and I try to go North in the Summer, rather than leave here during the more temperate months. Except last February. That wasn’t temperate. We just huddled inside during the 5 degree temperatures with rolling blackouts in our neighborhood. At least there were rolling blackouts until the house next door burned down because of the gas furnace venting unburned natural gas into their attic when the electric pilot quit mid-start up cycle which then ignited the next time the power came back on. They left the power on after that, at least in our neighborhood.

I live in Florida. Should I get to vacation this winter, I’ll probably go to DisneyWorld or Universal. As a teacher, I don’t get the standard vacations as others do, so we just hit the fun, close places in the winter!

People in Florida go North in the Summer to escape the heat and humidity. And the occasional short trip(s) during hurricane season.

I think people living in cold climates (and I do) tend to think of vacations in winter to get away from the cold. There is no reason to assume FL residents need to run away during the best time of their weather, in the winter. I would guess that travel out-of-state time is more likely to avoid the hottest months. I am sure some residents will enlighten me as to whether I am right or wrong.

As most places, or vacations are not based so much on weather as when we can get time off. Since Winter is our busy season we stay here and work. Of course, in our site season I still don’t go anywhere. I like being warm.
