He was not alone. Producing art is not the same as making furniture or building a house. Takes time for an artist who his ahead of is time to be recognized and appreciated. Add to that the attitude of many earlier rulers and potentates who loved having an artist on call, but treated them more like a sideshow, as part of the royal menagerie. Nowadays we are quicker to recognize talents and support them. Still not easy of recognition for some but better than generations before.
