Dad SAID “it feels like flying AT FIRST, but it’s all falling”. Danae heard what she wanted to hear. Which is normal for far too many people, not just kids.
PS: Even old-style parachutes can be guided as you fall. The Ram air types and wing-suits actually do let you glide, even upward if you have enough momentum.
Only in the comics can a miniature percheron and a little girl climb tall trees and hook up huge rubber bands. In an alternate universe she becomes president
Talked to a woman who learned to parachute. As I am totally lacking in courage, I never considered jumping out of an airplane. She said the learning process was great and then came to the first solo jump. The parachute wrapped around her when it deployed, something called a “May West” I think she said. While falling toward the earth, she remembered how she’d been told to take care of this problem, unwrapped the chute and deployed the reserve, landing without injury. She said that was her last jump.
When we lived on base in Massachusetts the road to the back end of the base was separated from the housing area by a 10 foot fence. We cautioned our son, “Do NOT climb over the fence.”
One day we saw him on the other side. When we asked him why he disobeyed us, he said that he didn’t climb over the fence; he went under it.
Once on Hollywood Squares, Charlie Weaver was asked, How high should you be before jumping out of an airplane? His answer? About two or three days of steady drinking should do it.

My son is 39. At Danae’s age he would have tried this for sure

Danae is welcome to do it, but not her horse! She won’t come back from that.

When Danae says There’s nothing to worry about,
it’s like a redneck saying Hold my beer and watch this.

Danae is taking a page from Calvin’s book, but she didn’t read the whole thing.

You should definitely consult with Calvin and Hobbes first

Science marches on. In the 1700s some guy dropped cats from a balloon to see if they’d land on their feet.
