Lucy is making progress. Her different feeling lasted a few seconds this time while she was expressing her thoughts – until her brother decided to speak!
You’d think Linus knew better than to approach a question head on. An opening line like “that’s nice” or “that’s great” would soften the way for the big question. But, I guess it’s like all the Peanuts kids: they never learn.
Lucy has a point. We all have the emotions we choose to have.
Sometimes we allow others to influence our choice.
For example, I will allow the actions of some of our so-called leaders to influence me to choose anger. Anger is the motivation I need to write letters to the editor and to contact the people themselves or to contribute to causes to counter them. Once I’ve done that, I move onto some other emotion.
On the death of a loved one, I choose grief. Grief is therapeutic. I also know, from years of experience, that grief eventually morphs into fondness and that memories bring smiles instead of tears.
So this Christmas Season I choose to be Merry. May you make the same choice!
