Christmas trees like mistletoe, holly, ivy, etc are all pagan symbols which have survived into modern Christmas. I’ve read that the reason it came to be considered unlucky to leave Christmas decorations up after Twelfth Night was because you could be arrested for having pagan symbols in your house outside of the Christmas period.
It’s just a comic strip. Correct spelling or not, things were different back then. You go to school to learn, once you get out of school you can do whatever you want. Nobody in 1971 in this case was worried about spelling because people spelled things the way they learned it and did whatever they wanted to. Otherwise Rock and Roll bands sure need some help spelling with their names.
