I think Marigold is thinking Phoebe needs Florence’s silencing spell.

I think Marigold is finding herself agreeing with Dakota’s previous criticism of Phoebe when she told her to talk less.

“I am not super talkative”!?! Someone is not aware of her behaviour.

Think about it. Speech between these two is a zero sum game. Phoebe has to make up for the silence that Mari is contributing!

The silence is deafening.

Oh, wow, maybe I was wrong. Marigold might actually learn something from this.

It’s moments like this where Phoebe truly parallels a certain Millicent Mudd. ;)

STOOOOOOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phoebe kind of reminds me of my daughter (adult daughter, that is). We often drive out to my sister’s for a visit and it is about a 1.5 hour drive. Sometimes we can go the whole way and not say a word (comfortable silence), but other times, she will latch onto a subject and talk the whole hour and a half!! (we also can have normal back and forth conversations)

Shut up? Why certainly! You don’t think I’m the type that would keep on blabbin’? Some people never know when to stop. When I’m told to shut up, I shut up…

I like how the dialogue balloons grow larger from panel one to panel three, almost blocking out the visual. Phoebe’s blathering has become overwhelming.

I started reading Phoebe’s balloons and ended with her voice sounding like Jerry Seinfeld’s. “And deafening silence, what’s up with that?”

For the same reason we’re ALL looking at you that way, Phoebe: “DEAFENING SILENCE SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD RIGHT ABOUT NOW!”

Marigold rolls her eyes because so far Phoebe has said not one word about her.

Hello silence my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again.

The good Lord gave us one mouth but TWO ears, we might learn a lot if we put ourselves under a spell of silence.

BTW, my copy of the first book of these comic strips arrived today, and I’m tickled pink!

Millie went to the exact same place 19 years before Phoebe did.

But it’s more than funny enough to want to see them both have that problem.

“I don’t know if I can talk enough for both of us…”
