Too many losses this past week – it’s been a terrible one for so many of us. Thinking of everyone who lost someone last week. I hope you can find some comfort here. We’re always here to listen to stories about loved ones and we love you as part of the Orb, no matter if you comment here all the time, occasionally, or never.
Time has come, great mouser bold, the years have passed and you’ve grown old; the body that once served so well is a painful cage, a hollow shell. Your time upon this plane is through, for Mother Bast has called to you.
Go to sleep and dream a dream, of sun drenched meadows by a stream of cream; with darting minnow and dragonfly, you’ll drink your fill while your feet stay dry. Hunt the grass where the big mice go, and birds take off just a hair too slow; where all day long it’s jump and run, then stretch and nap in the drowsy sun, then stalk the shadows when fireflies glow, to the night clad fields where the catnip grows.
But spare a moment in your feline rest, to remember me, who loved you best. We shared so much throughout the years, laughter, fireside warmth, and tears. I gave you food, a bed and milk, you gave me purrs as soft as silk. When life was tough, and friends were few, I knew that I could depend on you; to remind me never to give in, you’d bump your head against my chin.
I brought you toys, stuffed mice and strings, but still you would destroy MY things! Or claw the rug, the door, the chair, and blanket the house with cast-off hair, until I’d scream, “WHO NEEDS A PET?” But minutes later we’d both forget. For who could be mad at shredded lace, when looking at your “I’m sorry” face? I’ll cry and clutch the gnawed on shoe, for Mother Bast has called to you.
Go where you must and never fear, there will always be a soft spot here; in another time your soul may rise, I’ll know you when I see your eyes. So don’t look back, I’ll say goodbye, for everything that’s born must die. You’ll shed this cloak of age worn skin, and be a kitten once again, in a place where skies are always blue, for Mother Bast has called to you.
I don’t often comment, I’m Pamm Whittaker’s Hubby and I’m gutted about poor Lupin. I created some gifs of my imagining of his antics during the period he was “missing” (aka naked) imaging his exploits visiting neighbouring comic strips (Business Cat & Garfield). I don’t think I can post them here but I reposted them on my twitter. (thread link here: https://twitter.com/dashael2077/status/1482666166812549123)
In panel 4, Elvis protectively holds his paw close to his chest. In panel 7, he concedes and holds his paw out willingly but only since it’s his Woman.
RIP Reboot, Lupin and Yum Yum. I hope you are all frolicking together at the Rainbow Bridge. Don’t forget to get tangled in Paul’s feet to make him spill his beer!
Lupin is stuck in the drawer in his Indiana Jones outfit discovering the giant blue bag of kibble. Love the drawings on the original strips-Lupin at the top of a waterfall, and the man holding him dripping. Lupin will live forever in our hearts and in our cats when they do the same crazy stuff he does.
When my late wife and I lost our female Chihuahua, one of my loving wife’s clients gave her a bracelet with a human hand holding a paw. I now wear it along with a pendant with my loving wife’s fingerprint on it.
Over the years, come cats have let me hold their paws. One of my current furbabies likes to tap me with her right front paw to get my attention so I will pet her. She doesn’t much appreciate that I try to hold it when she does that!
Usually slap fights involve squinting the eyes to slits and laid back ears. Fortunately, I’ve never seen one last more than a few seconds.
I do like to hold my cats’ paws. If they are very relaxed, they will do the toe spread, when you touch the bottom. The tops are universally silky. You can tug the claw tips individually. Sometimes a reclining cat will stretch out one paw and you can do a gentle “high five”.
Don’t mess with their paws while they are using them, i.e. standing.
I’ve never had a cat without a dog, and dogs LOVE to have their paws held. So, all my cats have, too. I guess they figure they don’t want the dog to have something they don’t. They’ll offer their paw, or pat your hand or face with them.
Big Gray loves to hold paws with me. If I dare to move my hand to do something he will grab it and pull it right back. Never had a cat that did this before. It is so endearing.
Jasper would get suspicious any time I tried to hold his paw because it occasionally meant I was going to clip the sharp point off his claws. He would allow me to clip two before he would make his escape.
The late Ms Izta, rhymes with pizza, liked to sit on a human and, if she could, rest a paw on the human’s hand. I think it was a dominance thing from her point of view but it was fun.
Lupin isn’t even my favorite, I never actually met him, yet his death affects me as if he were my own. If that doesn’t speak to Georgia’s genius, nothing can.
I thought today was the Betty White Challenge, but the Lupin Wake is more suited to the day, and tomorrow is Betty’s 100th BD, so I think that’ll be the day.
I think all the tributes and poems have got to me—monitor’s getting blurry.
Thank you all for attending Lupin’s Wake. This is the biggest event I’ve ever dreamed up. I thought maybe a couple dozen comments would be posted, and I even debated with myself if I should suggest the idea. There were many great posts, and many happy thoughts of Lupin. I hope people of The Orb’s spirits were lifted. Again, thanks for participating.

My foster kittens often did that freeze-frame standing fight as Lupin and Goldie are demonstrating. So cute.

2) hogwash and POPPY-COCK !!
We’ve started using Lupin’s words at home to indicate incredulity :)
