Every once in awhile someone does keep a resolution. But almost never in my experience is it one that was made on New Years. I, for instance took up flossing after my dentist threatened me with big bills for something called “root planing”. So far, it’s working.
I worked out NY resolutions ]and Lent] years ago… I gave up Lent for Lent and kept going, and made a resolution to not do resolutions anymore. [only one I kelp]
CAUlfield has seen the pattern and is mostly correct. My take is that any life change you plan that required a start date in the future is destined to fail.
This one reminds me of several “Calvin and Hobbes” comics in the same vein. Calvin used to wax eloquent about things like this and I recall four or five about new years resolutions and Christmas “being good” stuff.

Is Caulfield more of a cynic or a realist?
Is this more a revelation of an insight or an attitude?
Is this really encouraging or not encouraging?

Maybe he’s a cynical realist with an attitude?

If you want to change something, change it.

They say most people abandon their New Year’s resolutions inside of a month.

I make sure to break my New Year’s resolutions as soon as possible. Why prolong the stress?

What is this kid doing out with the school janitor on Xmas vacation?

Looks like Caulfield is preemptively giving his own resolution a snowball’s chance.

Because there is no independent audit of every child and adult on this planet. And those who may not deserve it get presents too.

Who is Caulfield fixing to lob that snowball at, is what I’d like to know! ;)
