Elvis’ sign reminded me of a story. The students at Duke are known for their rowdy and loud behavior at basketball games. Something they did really riled some people up so they started holding up signs that said, “We beg to differ.”
OT: The BCN comic on August 18, 2019 talked about “whisker fatigue”. Is that something to be concerned about. My cat has no trouble eating her food or drinking her water, but I have been concerned about her dishes being kinda small and deep.
Our kids loved their ‘cheap, fast-food’ food too…and then the Boy got pancreatitis. He and his sister are 18 now, and he has to eat a very low fat diet. We went through can after can until we finally found one he’d eat. She – is not that picky, but he is. Now I get it a case at a time, afraid the supply chain thing will cause it to cease, and that would be very bad for him. And he’s my heart-cat.
When we have had to change the cats foods, we mix a little of the new food in with the old food, and over two weeks slowly increase the ratio of new to old food, until it is 100% the new food. Seems to work for our cats.
OT: As I mentioned in a comment the other day today is Mac and PC’s gotcha day. It has been 2 years now since I took them home to live with me. I had lost my last cat Maxie the day before Christmas in 2019 and the house was empty without a cat. I had had at least one cat most of the time I had lived out on my own, since 1990, and a house without a cat seemed very empty. The second weekend after Christmas I went to a couple of pet stores here that have cats in them from the local humane society that need homes. The first one had a few cats, but none of them quite seemed right. The second one just had two cats, they were brother and sister and it said they were a bit shy and would like to be adopted together. Since I really wanted to get two they seemed perfect and I decided to adopt them. I had to wait to be approved and was able to take them home the next Tuesday, two weeks after I had lost Maxie. I can’t imagine the last 2 years without them.
The day kind of snuck up on me. I was thinking about it at the beginning of the week and thinking it couldn’t be this week yet because it was two weekends after Christmas, but they I remember that Christmas was on a Wednesday that year. So I didn’t have any special treats or toys for them this morning but I did wish them happy gotcha day and I plan on going out later today and will by them some special food if they have Fancy Feast at the grocery store. Maybe I will get them a special toy tomorrow, though last year the special toy I got them they destroyed in less than an hour. :)
It’s like mine – beer tastes on a champagne budget. Thankfully, our big male actually does like his new special kidney diet food, although once in a while we have to mix in a little of the grocery store stuff to tempt him back.
If the woman had presented the food more covertly, they might have gone for it. Put a couple of spoon fulls on a human dinner plate next to some mac and cheese residue and maybe a little meat juice, place it on a surface where the cats know they are not supposed to go, lights out, leave the room… There is a good chance the the plate will be clean in the morning, ’cause cats love the forbidden so very much.
There used to be a very cheap brand of canned cat food that was full of mushy gray scraps of organs with other unidentified shredded masses. It stunk to high heaven, so we didn’t buy it often. The cats loved it. We opened the cans on the back porch and fed them there because of the stench. My stepfather was a jerk and a snob, and he thought it was cool to feed cats lobster and raw liver and such, but they preferred that stinky can of gray stuff.
The Maxine calendar I ordered for Partner finally arrived today. November features a can of cranberry space goo wobbling precariously, as Maxine says, “The pilgrims never dreamed that one day cranberries would be in the shape of the can.”

The signs are probably illegible to humans, but I think the cats have made their point. The Man picked up on it before the Woman.

I saw her today accept rejection
Pieces of cup in her hand
I knew she would make the connection
At her side was a sleepless Man
No, they won’t always eat what you want
Cats don’t always eat what you want
You can’t always get what you want
Though you try sometime to find
Healthy food that they need
Ah, yeah
Oh
And they staged a peaceful demonstration
To heap on her share of abuse
Said, "We’re gonna vent our frustration
If we don’t get the tasty food to which we’re used"
Sing it to me, honey
You can’t always get food you want
You can’t always get food you want
You can’t always get food you want
But if you’re loved sometimes, well, you just might find
You get what you need, oh yeah
Ah baby, woo!
Ah
We can’t always eat what we want, well no
We can’t always eat what we want. I tell you, baby
We can’t always eat what we want, no
But if we try sometimes we just might find, uh, mm
We eat what we need, oh yeah, woo!
Ah yeah, do that

Written by Barry Gibb, sung by Dionne Warwick: Heartbreaker
Puck: I got to say it and it’s hard for me
You made me angry like I thought I would never be
Loved what you fed me but you let me down
I can’t love this healthy stuff that you have found!
…….
Goldie: And I look for my breakfast and I am appalled
Food should be what we like, or not all
And it don’t matter what ever you do
I’m gonna show my wrath to you!
…….
Elvis: Each day I look for my supperIn my bowl
It may be expensive food,
But I think it’s really rude
To make a switch on this Siamese, I am most displeased!
…….
All: Why do you have to be a food breaker?
Is there a problem that we never knew?
Suddenly there’s this expensive stuff,
That looks like goo!
Why do you have to be a food breaker?
When we were eating what we wanted to eat?
Please bring back the food that wanted,
Or it will go bad for you!
…….
Lupin: My anger’s strongest in the universe!
Watch out for your phones, it could get much worse!
You may mean well, you just can’t see
This “good for you” stuff can no longer be!
We must insist on the cheap food we love,
You have to try, or kiss your cellphone goodbye!

Nurses: Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!
Marie: Here’s one.
Robert: I’m not dead!
Nurses Here, he says he’s not dead!
Marie: Yes he is.
Robert I’m not!
Nurses He isn’t?
Marie: Well, he will be soon. He’s very ill.
Robert: I’m getting better!
Marie: No, you’re not. You’ll be stone dead in a moment.
Nurses: Oh, I can’t take him like that. It’s against regulations.
Robert: I don’t want to go on the cart!
Marie: Oh, don’t be such a baby.
Robert: I can’t take him.
Robert: I feel happy. I feel happy.
I am not dead yet
I can dance and I can sing
I am not dead yet
I can do the Highland Fling
I am not dead yet
No need to go to bed
No need to call the doctor
Cause I’m not yet dead.
Chorus of other Patients in recovery: He is not yet dead
That’s what the geezer said
No, he’s not yet dead
That man is off his head
He is not yet dead
So put him back in bed
Keep him off the cart because he’s not yet dead.
