There was a Sunday Bloom County that was similar in form to this where it started as “Opus got tickets to ‘Cats’” which went through the crowd in the meadow and evolved to “Opus got rickets from Rats” to “Picketed by ……” and so on so that Opus had to return from his holiday at Heritage USA (The place that Jim and Tammy hung out at). I think Breathed kind of did a tribute to one of the old school cartoonists from “The Saturday Evening Post” or another one of those old school publications which used some of the talents of the mid century modern cartoonists. I wish I remember what year or anthology but it escapes me now, it must have happened before Jim Bakker went on trial though….

My comic pages didn’t show anything from 1/1 until today. I finally backspaced through the intervening days, and suddenly today’s comic made sense. It had a note every day that said there was no comic posted today. Weird. It was also weird reading the progression backwards.

One of my English teachers told us about a game kids in his neighborhood used to play: Whisper Down The Lane.
