So, my initial reaction yesterday to the guy in the toque was not correct. It was Blackjack all along. He gets knocked down, but he gets up again. “We’ll be singin’” is indeed the first words in the intro to Blackjack’s signature tune, “Tubthumping.” Here are the lyrics:
https://youtu.be/egN8CjfQkxc
I wonder where he’s headed. Out of town, most likely.
Tracy’s umbrella may not be huge, but it does look cozy.
To me, this is a very satisfying conclusion to both the Sterling Eliot arc and the Mr. Bones arc which I see as two parts of the same thing. I wish I had more time this week to replect on everything, but I have other higher priorities at the moment.
Neil Wick about 1 hour ago@avenger09If you are not grumbling, that would mean you are contented with what you are calling filler. If so, I misunderstood your comment about filler.
I don’t know why you and others such as Kenny G. automatically think I hate the strip. Filler material is necessary in life. 2 days ago I said that day’s strip was a nice family portrait.
Fixing a Hole would be considered a filler song on Sgt. Pepper’s but it’s still a fantastic song.
As much as I’m critical of Mike Curtis’ storytelling chops, I’ll give him praise when it’s due. That was the perfect ending to this story. Almost brought a tear to my eye, that’s how good it was. It did bring a huge smile to my face. What a big emotional impact, I’m so happy Blackjack is alive and that everything turned out okay. Kudos to 22ph for calling it yesterday. And I’m telling ya, Willem Defoe as BJ for the movie!
And credit to Shelley Pleger, that is beautiful artwork!
Listening to “Tubthumping” in the link Neil posted, it does seem as if Shelley tried to draw “music” that matches the rhythm of those opening chords. Way to go, Shelley!
For those wondering how Blackstrap went from dire straits to his current circumstances – read on:
1-TESSLA: Truthfully – are you sharing the umbrella out of love of me or the $150 you’re saving on a new hair appointment?
DT: Do you even have to ask, my love? TESSLA: So the money. I might a knowed.
2-♪♪ WHISTLE ♪♪ HOLD UP GIANT TAXI! I NEED A RIDE!
3-BLACKSTRAP: Luckily, I ran into a Canadian couple after my ordeal. They had no problem with me being nude after I explained that paying for American healthcare had left me destitute. Then they gave me these cool Canadian clothes including a tuque, and some of their funny money that’s not worth much. Then I stole the rest of their stuff. Canadians are so nice! And trusting…
I said it before in a late reply on that long string appended to Neil’s first Comment. I’ll say it again. This is a most satisfying and perfect ending to this story!
BLACKJACK LIVES! My favorite anti-villain is alive and well and reunited with his collection: I don’t think I could ask for much more, other than some details on how he escaped the explosion that Richard Bonhomme, of ill memory, had intended to be the death of him.

It looks like BJ got free and clear of the house before it exploded and burned and is “looking good” !
I honestly thought that he was killed and “charcoaled”… But, Tracy thought that BJ would have survived ( by popular vote ! )
And I love the Tracy’s in the first panel !
