How will they check that number of people accurately? Gonna be some not quite infected and some in the after effects no matter what their vacc cards show.

And what if there is another more infectious and dangerous variant, where is it more likely to come to the surface than either the Chinese Olympics or any other gathering where shouting and close contact are the norm?

You pays your moneys and you takes your chances.

As with every other gambling event, when playing “You bet your life,” you have to decide whether the reward is worth the risk and if you can afford to lose.

Bruce Jenner’s torch went to auction back in 2015. Sold for just under $24k.

The big “elephant in the room” with testing is that most tests used at such events give around 20% false negatives. Recent bad news includes the finding that the virus becomes contagious sooner than previously thought. Despite recent shortening of guidelines for isolation, “outlier” cases continue to be contagious up to two weeks. The whole national attitude of “almost good enough” has dragged the COVID pandemic out for a third year. Whenever there is a choice between public health and money, as long as there are a few ICU beds still available, money wins, COVID wins. COVID is not just a you live or you die proposition. We will see lingering effects on health for years, if not decades.

Simple things can turn the tide. When was the last time you saw a public service video on how to wear a mask so that it fits PROPERLY around the nose or how to tighten up straps so the mask doesn’t fall off your face once a minute? I see these simple problems EVERYWHERE I go. COVID “learns” faster than we educate.
