At this time I don;t think Nancy was working and for all we know Frank was just an office worker. So all they had for income was his W-2, interest from saving, which the bank would issue a statement for him, and itemized deductions but one you’ve done that once you know what receipts to keep. And of course the deductions for the kids. Now if you were a self-employed cartoonist your taxes might be a bit more complicate. But for plain folk like the DeGroots it shouldn’t be a hassle.
They own their own home, a car, and can afford to send their daughter to college. That puts them in the top 10% of the richest people in the world, or, to put it another way, to 90% of the people in the world, they’re already incredibly wealthy.

No you wouldn’t, Nancy.
The IRS would audit you EVERY year.

If you were incredibly wealthy, you’d have even more financial stuff to worry about.

“I’ve got you babe. Making you happy makes me happy. Even failing makes me happy, just not as happy.”
And continuing:
“I got flowers in the spring, I got you to wear my ring
And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
So let them say your hair’s too long
Cause I don’t care, with you I can’t go wrong
Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb"
(Even though they broke up, the world was a better place for them ever being together. dhg)
