Welcome to “terms and conditions/privacy” rabbit-holes 2.0. Though, I’d personally vote the FB rabbit hole to be the toughest, well neigh impossible, to navigate.

It’s called the cloud because when the server crashes all your data goes up like vapor.

I tried to send a Target gift card to a friend. I could not do it with my credit card unless I opened a Target account. Well, I guess Target doesn’t want my online business.

I try to maintain as small a footprint on the internet as possible. The more accounts you have, the more likely you are to be hacked or targeted (pun NOT intended) for phishing.

Lots of us don’t need and wouldn’t fall for this gimmick so there should be plenty of room up there for anyone who wants it.

There are sites/programs I don’t have – nor have I stored anything in a cloud – because I said no to onerous T&C. And yet life is still good.

I know people who thought it is an real cloud…it’s not a laughing matter trying to teach people about servers, and they reply that “those things are heavy and take up space, and I was thinking that I was being ecologically minded when I opted for the cloud”….

It all goes ’round and ’round. “The Cloud” seems more like the old server-client architecture we used back in the old DEC Vax/IBM AS400/Unix days.

Are VT-100s on their way back?

Whenever I hear “the cloud” I mentally replace it with the term “someone else’s computer” eg is it a good idea to store my private data “in the cloud” → is it a good idea to store my private data “on someone else’s computer”.

Clouds in space are known by their Latin name — nebulae — and are very very big, very very far away, and very very uncaring about your data.

The " cloud " is sponsored by NSA. They review ALL your data

Losing data is not your largest concern. Your largest concern is that you are trusting them (and every employee that can gain access to it) not to share, sell, or use it as they see fit.
