This strip is confusing “science” with “reality and truth”.

Science is not what the elite say is the truth. It is a process by which we seek to discern the truth and reality.

Sadly “the Science” has been the norm where by the political class seek to deceive and control the masses. The best example is the man-made global warming hoax designed get people to believe that they must give up on using energy to prevent a crisis that has been predicted to have happened by now and still has not. OFcourse, the latest example of Scientism is the efforts to demand “vaccination” with a genetic injection re-defined as a “vaccine” even though it does not prevent infection or spread of a virus. Simultaneously, “the Science” attempts to sell silly stories about natural mutation of a bat coronovirus 900 miles away in a Pangolin in a wet market in Wuhan, while ignoring the Faucic fundeed lab that created the virus itself. The same virus that has a 19 nuceotide sequence identical to the mRNA “vaccine” patented by Moderna -- SEVERAL YEARS AGO!

    Sigh.

Tyson is an idiot. The good thing about science is that you prove it over and over again would be accurate. Or, maybe, science doesn’t depend on your beliefs to demonstrate it’s veracity but rather on experimental results. The point is that science has gotten it wrong before and will get it wrong again but it is self correcting because if it is wrong, future experimental results will demonstrate that.

Actually, the collection of sciences is not about being right or wrong, true or false. They are about gathering information, making observations, and developing models that might describe some parts of that behavior based on certain conditions and requirements.

Facts are true. The earth is round. That’s observable and measurable and testable. Social facts are as true as material facts, but opinions and interpretations about the meaning of social facts, and what to do next, may vary greatly. : “I’m pregnant”, a teen girl announces at the dinner table. That’s a fact. Opinions about that fact, and what to do next, differ among everyone who heard the announcement. In politics a person in one party argues “MY political position is based on FACTS!” Those in the other party can accurately claim the same, and based on the same facts.

The problem with the “Neil DeGrasse Tyson edict” is that scientific conclusions aren’t always correct. That’s why science must always be open to new discoveries, even when those discoveries challenge long-established science-based tenets. So to say “…science…is true whether or not you believe in it” makes the erroneous assumption that science is always right.
