If you look closely, you will see that George Washington has two birth dates. For he was born when the United Kingdom, (and yes, the thirteen colonies were still part of the U.K. back then), under the old Julian calendar. Later the British switched to the more modern Gregorian calendar. So Washington has two different birth dates shown.
George Washington’s actual birthday is on the 22nd. Today is a federal Monday holiday, Presidents Day, celebrating Lincoln’s (12th) & Washington’s (22nd). We used to get both days off from school and work.
So, it’s 1975 (Presidents’ Day began in 1971) and this comic appeared on Monday 17 February, so 22 February is the following Saturday. I never liked the Monday Holiday Bill when it passed in 1968 and still don’t, especially what it did to Memorial Day. This past weekend ran American Top 40 for the 22nd, and the same weekend we began Daylight Saving Time (way too early).
When we were little, my brother would tease me: “MY birthday is on Washington’s birthday. Our nation’s founding father. One of the greatest people ever. We even live in a white house. YOUR birthday is on the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire & other disasters!” Funny thing tho: as an adult he was in a horrible accident & lost a chunk of his memory, including his wife’s & kids’ birthdays…but MY birthday, he remembered!
I was just reading in the Washington Post oday, that GW celebrated his 19th birthday on Feb 11 and his 20th on Feb 22 (due to the change of calendars from Julian to Gregorian).
George Washington deserves his own special day. He was indeed the “indispensable man” and there are excellent reasons why he was the unanimous choice among the founders to guide the new nation and set precedents for office he held with honor and distinction and peacefully passed to his successor.

As of 2022, his birthday isn’t until Tuesday, making him 290 years old.

They’ll never tell you about his birthday, just the fact that it is.

Dad said, back in school each year they’d alternate each year getting off Washington’s or Lincoln’s birthday.

Back when Schulz wrote this strip both Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays were separate holidays.
