It’s true, and looks like it really hurts their feelings! Well, some of the butterflies were pests in their former lives, also eating crops.

I know some folk who need to ask, “Why does everyone think I’m a plague?” instead of asserting, “Everyone in the world but me is an idiot.”
Blame it on serotonin induced, density-dependent phenotypic plasticity.
Well, millions is a big crowd….
I have to buy 8 milkweeds every year to replace the ones those butterflies devoured the previous year. So they can be a plague as well.
Of course, why would anyone any plant milkweed except to feed butterfly larvae?

Pretty sure Monarchs only ravage milkweeds…not whole crops of grain.

I find this particularly funny as I lived in Santa Cruz County for a few years and would take visitors to Natural Bridges.
Yeah, but ask the butterfly about all the hurricanes on the other side of the world…
