BurdockArctium is a genus of biennial plants commonly known as burdock, family Asteraceae. Native to Europe and Asia, several species have been widely introduced worldwide.People take burdock to increase urine flow, kill germs, reduce fever, and “purify” their blood. It is also used to treat colds, cancer, anorexia nervosa, gastrointestinal (GI) complaints, joint pain (rheumatism), gout, bladder infections, complications of syphilis, and skin conditions including acne and psoriasis.
We milked cows for a living when I was growing up. When the cows would get burdock burrs stuck in their tails and then slap you upside the head while swishing said tail, it would get your attention.
Burdock burr is best recognized as a stout, common weed with annoying burrs that stick to animal fur and clothing.
Burdock root has been used as food and medicine for centuries in various ways, including as a diuretic to aid digestion. It comes from the plant burdock that is related to daisies and sunflowers. It’s native to North Asia and Europe, but is grown in other parts of the world, including North America.
