When I was a kid, I constantly insisted that I would never marry (just like Calvin), and people kept insisting that I would change my mind as I got older.
Well, I’m 26 years old now, and I’m STILL not interested in romance. It just sounds too complicated for me.
“Rake”…Some time ago there was a Jeopardy “answer” that asked to name a garden tool that shared a name with a sexually promiscuous person. The poor slob responded with, “What is a hoe?”
In The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book, Bill Watterson explains, “I do not see Hobbes as a stuffed doll who miraculously comes to life when alone with Calvin. Nor do I see Hobbes as a product of Calvin’s imagination.”
He goes on to explain, “Hobbes is less to do with dolls coming to life and more to do with the subjective nature of reality. Calvin sees Hobbes one way; everyone else sees him another.”
Watterson’s points are well illustrated in today’s strip. Hobbes looks behind Calvin and tells him Susie is coming. Calvin turns round and can now see Susie but not Hobbes. We can still see Calvin and Hobbes but not Susie. We can see that Hobbes is dusting himself off but neither Calvin nor Susie can see this as Calvin is looking away from Hobbes and Susie can only see Hobbes as the stuffed doll which Hobbes is drawn as in the last panel.
Marriage. Is all about the money! The state takes their licensing fees, then the “church” takes theirs, lets add all the tuxedo and wedding gowns..caterers…limousines…photographers…Honeymoon suites…then we can always add in counselors to keep marriage going then the lawyers and courts to end it.Just Live together and raise your kids to do the same or you canwrite up a document joining your union, have 2 people witness it and have it notorized…you are married!
Hey sugar bomb, there is a sugar babe just waiting for you. if she is good enough, you will get the romance figured out! If not, you always got the toons to romance you!
I learned in an Evenings for the Engaged program that love is a decision. It’s not always about feeling an emotion. Love, according to Aquinas, is willing the good of another.

Ifyou don’t want to get married, you shouldn’t. Do not burden someone else.
