John needs to learn how to make his contribution and then back off when Elly picks what she wants anyway. The modern man can’t just stand back and say nothing. I think John should watch one of those couples shows on HGTV and he will get it.
It seems Elly is always oblivious about what she is doing. And I do remember peaches and greens, florals, stripes, etc. SO late 80s-mid 90s. I had a childhood friend whose mother decorated her entire house in those colors and patterns.
Sorry John. But this is one of those Male — Female arguments that you can’t win. You will always find yourself in the wrong no matter what you say. If you agree, you are in the wrong. If you disagree, you are in the wrong. You just can’t win.
John has already lost at the start by being in the wallpaper store. If I can speak for all men, I think it would be so much easier to drag a paint roller across the wall than hanging up wallpaper! You have to glue each strip, cut each paper to size, squeeze each air hole bubble flat, and then you have to find each window and electric outlet hidden behind the paper and cut them out! Give me some paint and a brush every time!
That is really irritating about people when they ask a question and answer it before anyone can answer it as Ellie is doing here. I know a lot of women do this in my family to make the other person look really stupid.
I don’t play this game anymore with her…I tell her to just decide and if it’s something that looks totally ridiculous, which it never is, then I’ll say something.
When my husband and I completely remodeled our kitchen, I realized that while I wanted his input in the design of the kitchen, when it came to the aesthetics (cabinet colors, countertops, etc.), I didn’t want his input; I wanted his approval. I suspect this is what Ellie wants too.
I thought Lynn was updating this comic as she gave it new life. These colors sound hideous!! No one in their right mind would decorate their bedroom in those colors nowadays! Even wallpaper is blah.. though I hear it’s making a comeback.
Being 1959 graduates of Rhode Island School of Design, wife with degree in Interior Architecture , & I in Advertising Design never had a problem resolving a ‘design problem’.
My mom complained dad would never give his input on decor. She made him go with her to choose wallpaper for the kitchen. She said he could make the choice. He got busy talking to the salesman about cars and just pointed at the first thing he saw. We had ugly wallpaper for years! He was never consulted again which made then both happy,
How did this whole discussion evolve to carpet or not to carpet? The main point is that Ellie is not listening. My husband and and I built a whole house together including original blueprints and we listened to each other. Probably why we are still in the same house together after 30 years and 52 years of marriage.

The longer you have off-white carpeting, the more off-white it gets.

Carpet?? Why in the world would anyone want carpet under the bed, you can’t ever get it clean. UGH. That’s why area rugs and Swiffer were invented.
And yes, I do know that wasn’t the point of ’toon ;-)
