I never wore a bike helmet growing up, so it was not something I forced my kids to do. We ride bikes all the time, leisurely around the town or on a paved trail, but with no helmets. It just never occurs to me to wear one. Skiing on the other hand, we all have one!
I had a friend who was an excellent cyclist, rode all the time. One time she slipped off a curb at the wrong angle. She never returned to work. She went to the hospital for a long time, she ended up in a group home, and eventually died. She normally wore a helmet but didn’t that particular day. I can imagine what her response to the decision now to wear a helmet anytime on a bicycle. She used to cry and cry whenever she had a visitor. She couldn’t talk.

At 60 I wear a helmet. If I go down it’s going to hurt like all get out; with a helmet on at least I will know why it hurts.

Good “BURN” KID. Like the government, it’s do as I say, not as I do.

Helmets are really more to protect our health system from paying for you being on life support the rest of your life.

Like I always say, don’t wear a helmet if you don’t have anything to protect.

I’ve always wondered about the families I see riding, with both adults helmetless. Bad parenting!

If I have to wear a helmet, I’ll quit riding my bicycle. I’ve quit being reckless long ago.

We never wore helmets when I was a kid. Most of my injuries were to soft tissue where a helmet wasn’t possible.
