Years and Years ago; another dad story. My dad was at a company dinner, food and liquor, cigars also, in the 70’s, the cheque came and the president of the company told my dad to “pay for it,” about $4000. He said he was sweating, trying mentally to figure it out. Then someone said, “no” someone else was to pay, problem over, the next day he applied for an AMEX card.
When my boss visited my office, we always went to very nice restaurants for dinner and drinks. He had me pay with my card. He did this because my expense account went to him for approval. His expense account went to his boss and he did want to explain those charges. I have been to company dinners where I was asked to pay, because the president of the company did not want the outrageous charges on his expense account. Clever, and we all did it. People in accounting saw it all but did not want to point it out.

He’s better off this way. If he saw the check he would have had a heart attack
